As the unprecedented effects of the COVID-19 ‘Coronavirus’ took effect on the world and the country we have seen what has been our by-the-books daily lives change almost overnight as we braced ourselves for the full effect of the virus. As we head into the Level-4 lockdown which is set to close all venues, arena, travel except for non-essential business, in the wake plans have changed and some events that were planned to take place in the city have either been postponed as a result or cancelled.
If you had planned to visit Auckland during these coming months and were wondering the status of planned vents, to re-arrange travel arrangements, here’s a list of whats happened to up-coming events:
- The Comedy Festival that was due to take place from April to May has been cancelled for 2020.
- The American Street Food festival (‘Murica’ Food Truck And Beer Night) due to take place on 28 March has been postponed until 4 July 2020.
- My Chemical Romance were due to play Western Springs on 25 March, but the event has now been postponed until further notice. Those who have purchased tickets will be able to use them at the rescheduled dates or you can request a refund.
- Auckland Writers’ Festival has been cancelled for May 2020. All ticket holders will be fully refunded.
- Polyfest—The country’s largest Pasifika event has been cancelled for 2020.
- Lenny Kravitz was set to play Spark Arena on 31 March as part of his Here To Love tour. The show is now postponed until further notice.
- The National have postponed their April shows to December 7 and December 8 at the Civic Theatre.
- 2020 Corona Piha Pro—The World Surf League has postponed next week’s 2020 Corona Piha Pro WSL Challenger Series. The event was set to run from March 16-22.
- The Auckland International Cultural Festival was meant to take place on Sunday 5 April but has now been cancelled.
- Auckland Council’s Music and Movies in Parks series have been cancelled.
- Silo Cinema events in Auckland have been cancelled.
- All Book of Mormon performances at The Civic in Auckland are now cancelled.
- Auckland’s Royal Easter Show was supposed to take place 9-13 April but has now been cancelled
- Auckland Waterfront Half Marathon has been postponed and is looking to reschedule to August or September.
- Russell Brand’s New Zealand Performances have been cancelled and ticket holders will receive a full refund.
- Wet Wet Wet have cancelled their New Zealand tour this May.
- Faraday Street Festival was due to take over the streets of Parnell on the 27 March, but has now been cancelled.
- Auckland Arts Festival —Almost all Auckland Arts Festival shows have been cancelled.
- So Pop 2020 was due to take over Spark Arena in May but has now cancelled it’s tour.
- Sky High— A two date party at the top of the Sky Tower has now postponed to a later date. Your ticket will be honoured for the alternate date, or you can request a refund if you’d prefer.
